We were silly. It was 10 at night when the tide was out (which is when you can get the thermal pools), and so we did this at 10-11, and then drove to Auckland after that, which is a two hour drive. We couldn't find anywhere to stay up there, and we wanted to go to the beach, so that was our only option!
